Bruce Springsteen? He does have a gaping hole in his schedule during the DNC. Randy Newman? Check. What about the girls who just wanna have fun? Joining a rainbow of previously announced artists including Melissa Etheridge and Rufus Wainwright, 80's icon Cyndi Lauper has been added to the bill for "Rock To Win" at the Fillmore Auditorium on Tuesday August 26th. The event, in conjunction with the Human Rights Campaign, aims to celebrate GLBT equality.
It's no secret where Lauper's political views lean. Just recently on the True Colors tour (which stopped by Red Rocks in July) Lauper spoke out regarding George Bush's apparent mistrust of the gay community. According to Celebrity Smack! Lauper went on a rant from the stage: “I have been running with this community all my life, and when I hear people like George Bush talk about the gay community being anti-American it makes my blood boil. And that guy who says he prays to God, this guy who promotes hate and fear, this guy we call our President. This guy is the true anti-American.” So I'm guessing she's ready for a change.
Speaking of left field, CNN has been speculating this afternoon about the chances of Evan Bayh being selected as Obama's running mate. The Financial Times has gone so far as to delve into the odds of the selection process. You mean we can bet on this stuff? Sign me up. Let's make this interesting. So far, the best campaign ad I've seen comes from Paris Hilton.
See you at the convention, girls.
