Pony up Donkies -- Al Franken's in town

August 21, 6:19 PM

Al Franken tries to get the words out
Every class clown has a shelf life, especially in politics.  Could that be why Al Franken is not on the docket of featured speakers at the DNC next week?  Maybe.  He's also in the middle of a tight race for the U.S. Senate seat in Minnesota with former Democrat Norm Coleman.  Considering that Coleman once referred to Bush as "part of God's answer," maybe Franken should stay in Minnesota and get to work.
Still, one of the party's more outspoken voices will be slightly muffled next week.  Franken will appear at the convention opener Monday afternoon, then bee-line it to a fundraiser at Denver law firm Foster Graham Millstein Miller Calisher from 5:00 - 6:30.  Those planning on attending should sell that autographed copy of the White Album, as tickets are not cheap.

I've heard rumors he may pop in on the Daily Show, which will be in Denver taping shows all week at the Newman Center.  Franken covered the convention for Comedy Central back in '92 and '96.  Whatever the case, his campaign against Coleman this year should provide him with some fresh material.
