By now you've heard of the passing of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. But if this is your first time hearing it, then I'm the bearing of bad news: its true, Michael Jackson is dead.
Perhaps one of the world's greatest entertainers, Michael Jackson transformed mediums, crossed genres, and touched the hearts and lives of millions. He's best known for his outstanding music, songs like "Billie Jean", "Thriller", "Bad", and "Beat It" that defined a generation; his ground-breaking music videos for "Thriller", "Remember the Time", "Bad", and the "Moonwalker" mini-film; his remarkable performance as the Scarecrow on the Wiz, an adaptation of the Wizard of Oz; and, unfortunately, the gossip, rumors, and reports about his personal life; and his ... books?!
Michael Jackson was a songwriter, so it should come as no surprise that in 1992 a collection of his poetry Dancing the Dream was released from Doubleday. True to his songs and beliefs of world unity, feeding the poor, and peace, the poems are on those topics. It was put out with very little fanfare and with a limited supply of 150,000 copies during the first printing. Its definitely a collector's item, with prices on Amazon.com at the time of this article being published of $87.47 at the lowest. Fans can only hope that the collection will be released in tribute to the superstar.
There are other interesting books on Michael Jackson to be found on Amazon.com, including biographies and a book chronicling the 25th anniversary of the "biggest selling album of all time": Thriller. The book was released late '08 and is chock full of photos, interviews, and companion discs -- including a DVD of MJ dancing and appearances during that time and music remixes with contemporary artists Kanye West, Fergie, and others.
There is no easy way to close an article about the recent death of a beloved icon, especially when the author is a huge fan of the artist's work. Michael Jackson is best to end the blog, so when asking yourself why this had to happen, remember the words from one of his classic songs: "tell 'em that it's human nature."
