If it's Tuesday night in Baltimore and you're a fan of poetry, you need to be at Eden's Lounge for Organic Soul. The show starts at 9 pm, but come early to participate in the 2-for-one happy hour special and to get a prime seat, because they go fast. By the time the band begins to warm up and hostess Olu Butterfly takes the stage, the main room is standing room only.
However, if you are unable to get a front row seat for the act you can always relax in the cushy lounge area. The acoustics at Eden's Lounge travel well over the chatter of patrons to fill the venue with melodic verses and soulful beats.
Even though the event was designed for open mic poets and performers, the house band for Eden's Lounge takes the show. They provide unrehearsed accompaniment to any acts that request it; adding a professional feel to the performances. It's as if every night is a mini concert for local artists.
Though the venue is extremely nice and the event is professional, it has a feeling of elitism compared to other open mics in the area. The venue does have a dress code, so be sure to check the website and come dressed to impress. That said, there's energy from the amateur spoken word poets and soul singers that are brave enough to take the stage.
