A cross between Rachel the Pig and a Spelling Bee?

Do you remember how much fun spelling bees were when you were a kid? You're welcome to either nod in agreement or add a mental tone of sarcasm to the question if you'd like. Either way, imagine participating in a spelling bee now that you're all grown up, and this time you can add booze to the fun. Plus helping a worthy cause. And you don't even have to participate if you don't want to. Sit back with a cocktail and watch someone else try to spell "onomatopoeia."

Sponsored by the Market Foundation and held in the The Rendezvous/Jewelbox Theater, Buzzword, the Spelling Bee for Adults is a competition for teams of 3 people who "will compete for cool prizes and the chance to compete for the title of Killer Bee Spelling Champion at the championship round on July 28th!" Preliminary rounds will be held April 28, May 26 and June 23.

The Rendezvous/Jewelbox Theater is in Belltown, located at 2322 2nd Avenue, and the first round of fun will be held Tuesday, April 28 from 7 to 9:30 pm.

If you want to compete, sign up on Brown Paper Tickets. Registration team fee is $100 and you better hurry. If you just want to watch tickets are $5 at the door.

"All proceeds benefit the Pike Place Market's human service agencies for downtown Seattle's low-income and senior individuals: Pike Market Medical Clinic, Senior Center, Child Care & Preschool and the Downtown Food Bank."
