On Christmas day most of the country shuts down. Businesses of all sorts fail to open and most people have a holiday. With all the festivities it's easy to forget that not everyone celebrates Christmas. Not everyone can be with family on that day. Not everyone has something to do. For some it's just an ordinary day. For others it's inconvenient to find a favorite restaurant or coffeeshop closed. Still others, who do celebrate the holiday, like to get out and about on December 25th. So what is there to do? Not as much as usual, but there are a few options.
Oprah Winfrey's'The Color Purple' is playing at the Paramount at 7:30 pm. Wayward Coffeehouse in Greenwood, where the brew is always organic, fair trade and shade grown, and the wi-fi is always free, is open all day from 8 am to 9 pm. The Majestic Bay Theatre in Ballard is showing 'Bedtime Stories', 'Seven Pounds' and 'Frost/Nixon' during several showtimes. Pacific Place and Oak Tree are also open with even more offerings, and the Landmark Theatres (Egyptian, Harvard Exit, Guild 45th, Metro, Neptune, Seven Gables, Varsity & Crest) have plenty of great shows. Conor Byrne Pub opens at 7 pm and will remain that way until everyone goes home. As of this writing, the Space Needle will be open, both the Observation Deck and the SkyCity Restaurant. A few of the areas at The Summit at Snoqualmie will be open for snow sports enthusiasts. Looking for music? For $5 Chop Suey invites you to a Rock Band and Karaoke Christmas Party at 7 pm. Nothing says December 25th like some karaoke. In the mood to play video games other than Rock Band? Gameworks opens their doors from 5 pm to midnight. There are several restaurants that are offering special holiday dinners, like Six Seven at the Edgewater Hotel and The Dining Room at Salish Lodge. And of course, in a time honored tradition, many Chinese restaurants are open. Just head down to the International District.
