Find out more about Maria: Author of the 3rd edition of ‘The Newcomer’s Handbook for Moving to and Living in Seattle,’ Maria is a freelance writer, accountant, single mother to two teens and turtle owner. Born as a 3rd generation Seattleite and raised on Vashon Island, she tried living in other cities but found Seattle owns her heart. Also, the turtle is unwilling to move again. Those who think Seattle is going to the dogs and happen to make a trip to University Village this Saturday (10/4) will find nothing there to dispel that notion. What they would find is FidoFEST, a new annual festival dedicated to our canine companions.
Seattle Humane Society's Walk for the Animals starts at 10:30 am and the rest of the festivities kick off at noon. There will be beauty competitions, contests, a dog-friendly beer garden, a demonstration by the Seattle Police Canine Unit, Doga (dog yoga), (yes, really), and you won't want to miss the opportunity to have a wedding ceremony for your dogs culminating in a "Certificate of Muttrimony."
There's even more that will be happening, officially and of course unofficially, so if you believe that going to the dogs is a very good thing, get out and show your support (and your dog) at FidoFEST.
