This summer, enrollment at city public colleges has reached its highest level in 18 years. According to a recent report, over 73,000 students are enrolled in courses at CUNY schools this summer, up 3% from last year.

Schools like Queensborough College, York College, Hostos Community College and New York College of Technology in Brooklyn, have each witnessed growth in their respective schools.  Administrators have stated factors ranging from graduating sooner, upgrading skills, learning new skills, or finding a new job as factors in spiked enrollment. Other students have taken advantage of summer school, so they can have a lighter load during the regular school year and utilize the bargain basement price of $170 per credit for an in state resident.

Whatever the case may be, it’s good to see an increase in individuals who value education and see it as a tool to advance their lives from a career standpoint.
