Welcome, Trina! Tell us a little about yourself.
Thanks for inviting me, Fran! My name is Trina Lane, and I am the alter ego of a St. Louis, MO native who has been passionately addicted to romance novels since the age of thirteen.
I enjoy almost all genres of romance including werewolf/vampire, shapeshifters, contemporary, historical, suspense, BDSM, and paranormal. I have an extensive collection of novels featuring heterosexual and gay couples with a good sampling of ménage a trois partners.
My only requirement is that all reads have a happily ever after ending. When I am not devouring a new book by one of my favorite authors or thinking up new storylines for one of my own, you can usually find me watching a movie with my husband and cat, working with my other passionate obsession, photography, or listening to my iPod.
What drew you to writing?
As I said before I’ve been an avid reader for many years. After finishing a new book I would often think of spin-off stories involving the characters or find myself mentally rewriting the entire thing. I started my first novel in my head while driving to work one day. The characters, dialogue and storyline kept getting more detailed and extensive each day of my commute that week. I decided on a lark to go home and start writing it down from the beginning. Eventually it became the novel SEALing Fate which is scheduled for release by Red Rose Publishing at the end of the year.
How do you find ideas for your books? Real happenings? Dreams? A great imagination?
I think it’s a combination of all these. The first novel I wrote had quite a bit of my personality woven into the heroine. Some of the emotions and events described mimic those of my life. In some ways it was cheap therapy, (smile). My second book was born out of dreams and my latest project was pure creativity and research. In my opinion you can’t write a fully developed story based on any one of these sources, you need to find the right blend in order to really have a reader involved in the lives of your characters.
Describe the heroines you love to write. What drives them into the arms of these incredible hunks?
I love to write about intelligent, full loving, strong of mind and body women, who are not afraid to be vulnerable. They generally are not your stereotypical beauty, but are beautiful people. The men they fall in love with provide them with that which they seek most. Whether that is physical pleasure beyond their wildest dreams, a safe haven to be herself, a pillar of support, or a best friend. Since this is fiction the best hunk is all of these in one.
Tell us a little about your favorite “hero” type guy.
I love a good Alpha male. He has to be decisive and focused, he has to make you laugh, and he has to make you drool with desire. He is willing to stand up for what he believes in. Whether that is defending our country, building and protecting his family, or being a successful businessman.
How difficult is it for you to get into “writer’s mode”?
Laughing….not at all. I will frequently find myself daydreaming throughout the day. Living inside my stories, when I probably should be living in the now.
Tell me a little about your new book.
Well, I have several firsts coming up. I will have my first published novel with the release of Shield’s Submissive from Total-E-Bound on September 7th. And I have just completed my first male/male contemporary erotic romance. I’m really excited to send it on to the publishers.
Congratulations on your success as an author. How many books do you have in print now? Which is your favorite?
I have two books currently accepted for publication and hopefully a third soon. Asking for my favorite is like asking a parent to pick their favorite child. I love all the books I’ve written because in some way each of them is a part of me.
What does your writing schedule look like? What's your best time of day to write? Are you a morning writer or a night owl?
I am a part-time writer. My host holds a full time job and lives a hectic lifestyle with commitments to friends and family. Generally speaking I write at night-usually late and sometimes into the early morning hours.
Do you have a “writer’s cave”? Do you have any writing rituals? Like special music, times of the day, food quirks, etc?
Absolutely. I write from a desktop computer snuggled away in the corner room of the house. I prefer to be in there at night, with no lights on. The only illumination coming from the computer screen. It helps me silence the outside world and escape into the lives of those I write. I always have music playing. My choices vary depending on the scene I’m currently working on. I have hundreds of albums encompassing just about every genre. Most people say my iTunes library looks like that of someone with a multiple personality disorder. (smiles).
What advice do you have for aspiring writers?
Don’t be afraid to take a chance. If you have an idea go with it. Before submitting to any publisher find a good beta reader. If it’s a friend make sure they can be objective.
Today, writers need not only write great books, but be great promoters of their books, too. What kinds of things do you do?
I belong to an author/reader Yahoo group for romance novel enthusiasts, where we can post excerpts and publication dates. In addition I’m developing a website and Facebook page.

The steam swirling around her created a dreamlike atmosphere. The clouds obscured her vision but she didn’t need to see clearly in order to know just who walked into the room behind her. For some elemental reason she always knew when he was near. She could feel his presence like an invisible force, an eddy that quickly towed you deep then left a lingering existence in your own soul. She didn’t know if it was his scent or if he had a unique heat signature that allowed her to track him like the most sensitive military ordinance. She stood still almost to the corner of the small cubed space. The steam hissing out of the pipes was almost as loud as her own breathing. She felt every single fiber of the soft terry cloth towel wrapped around her naked body. Her nipples were straining against the threaded material. Begging for his touch. Slick moisture gathered on her skin from both the steam and her own intense desire. A soft groan escaped her lips and she tried to cover it with a soft cough but apparently he heard the sound anyway. His hands curved over her shoulders as he pulled her back into his body. She felt every hard line and defined muscle of his broad chest. His deep voice whispered seductively into her ear. “It’s time to stop playing this game we’ve become so fond of, Erica. It’s been amusing up to this point but now the rules are going to change. You will become mine before the day is out.”
Her voice sounded strange to her ears, slightly elevated and whisper soft. “What rules do you speak of Sir?”
His head bent down and a lock of his soft hair brushed against her neck. His hand trailed from her shoulder to graze her neck with one finger. “You will follow my commands when and where I see fit. You will heed to my desires and I will fulfill yours. I can tell this excites you. I feel your pulse rushing just under your skin. I hear your breathing get shallower.”
“Maybe that’s just from the workout and the steam congesting my lungs”
His finger moved further down her neck to glance across her collarbone, down her chest and without any hesitation slipped beneath the towel to cup her left breast. “Maybe, but if so why is your nipple hard?”
The first intimate touch of his hand against her skin was pure sensation. All thoughts evaporating just like the steam that cocooned their bodies. She leaned back and put her head on his shoulder. Exposing her neck to further invite another touch. His fingers gently massaged her nipple learning her texture and sensitivity. His palm cupped the underside of her breast.
His other hand came around and loosened the towel. As it fell to the damp floor beneath their feet Erica gasped and started to bring her hands up to cover herself before she recognized that the increase in steam really prevented him from seeing anything more below her breasts. It was actually quite arousing. Knowing that she was completely bare but still retaining the mysteries of her body. His hands began to skim down her sides. Feeling his way as he learned the curves of her shape.
“Your skin is so soft, like satin. I’m dying to taste every single inch. Every soft curve and valley will know my touch. ”
He spun her around and cupping her breast in his hand leaned down and took one nipple into his mouth. An irrepressible groan left both their throats. His tongue rasped across the sensitive peak as a gentle suction pulled through his mouth. His other hand was busy rolling the opposite nipple.
His hand started to glide down her back. Arching into the touch she showed him without words how incredible he felt on her skin. With a soft growl he insisted “Just one little touch my dear. I need just one touch to burn into my memory until we meet again.”
