As summer winds down and the readers who participated in the Barnes and Noble summer reading program are finishing their journals, it is time to head to B&N and turn in those book lists!

The free books available for kids who read eight books and record them on the Summer Reading Journal are sorted by by grade.

First and Second Grade Books

  • Abe Lincoln's Hat (Martha Brenner)
  • Biscuit Takes a Walk (Alyssa Satin Capucilli)
  • Camping Out (Mercer Mayer)
  • Curious George: Pinata Party (H.A. Rey, also available in Spanish)
  • Fancy Nancy: The Dazzling Book Report (Jane O'Conner)
  • Little Bear's Visit (Else Holmelund Minarik)

Third and Fourth Grade Books

  • Chocolate Fever (Robert Kimmel Smith)
  • Clarice Bean, Don't Look Now (Lauren Child)
  • The Enormous Egg (Oliver Butterworth)
  • Henry Higgens (Beverly Cleary)
  • Justin and the Best Biscuits in the World (Mildred Pitts Walter)
  • Moonwalk: The First Trip to the Moon (Judy Donnelly)
  • Pick of the Litter (Bill Wallace)
  • El ratoncito de la moto (Spanish only copy of The Mouse and the Motorcycle) (Beverly Cleary)
  • Soupy Saturdays with the Pain & the Great One (Judy Blume)
  • Sugar Plum Ballerinas: Plum Fantastic (Whoopi Goldberg)

Fifth and Sixth Grade Books

  • Beacon Street Girls #1: Worst Enemy/Best Friends (Annie Bryant)
  • Ben and Me (Robert Lawson)
  • Lady Margaret's Ghost (Elizabeth M. Jones)
  • Percy Jackson & The Lightning Thief (Rick Riordan)
  • Schooled (Gordon Korman)
  • Sounder (William H. Armstong)
  • The Twenty-One Balloons (William Pene du Bois?

If the signing parent indicate that the child reads above grade level, there should be no problems getting the books on the upper grade list. Summer reading lists are due to Barnes and Noble by September 7, 2009.
