Three days in the desert with some of the hottest bands around is pretty cool but it is also really really hot. Temperatures are expected to get very high out at this year's Coachella Music and Arts Festival. To make it through all that, whether you're a Southlands resident taking advantage of local delights, a big music lover flying in from NYC to see and hear this unique cluster of bands or one of the lucky ones to be hitting off-site events like KCRW's Jason Bentley and others invite-only DJing at the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs, here's two tips you need for a good Coachella. More than piling on the sunscreen, having a hat for the day and a jacket for the evening, there are two things you need to know.
First of all, there are so many good bands and performers at Coachella this year, you have to parcel out what and whom you will see. Don't beat yourself up if you can't make it to every show. That’s the consequences of riches. So prioritize.

Secondly, water. Lots and lots of water. Bring it, buy it, and drink it all the time. Out in the heat, dehydration can hit you harder than Mike Tyson during his prime. Like the former champ, who has a new documentary on him out and has a cameo in the comedy The Hangover, dehydration can come back and knock you on your ass. So drink bottle after bottle of water. There will be fountains around the venue, a spraying art installation, free lukewarm water if you bring your own container and, if you drop $10 for a Coachella 24oz container, you can get "free cold filtered water all weekend." Check out more on the Coachella water program here and think two words - "Music" and "Water." Have lots of both at Coachella this year.
