ffwd was recently interviewed by the National Technology News Examiner of Examiner.com
When was your company founded?
2007
What's the story behind how you started the company?
As I was wrapping up at iLike, I noticed the similarities between the early days of the digital transition of the music industry with the transition television and short form video is going through right now. The resulting insight is that as soon as the explosion of video content takes off (yes there is more coming), the need would very quickly shift to ways of navigating this content. Originally, I thought I would recruit an engineer to co-develop solution prototypes to use in courting investors. However, as I was browsing listings of existing job postings to find the right words, I found an existing team working on a different aspect of the emerging video ecosystem. These three became my co-founders and ffwd was born.
What is your company all about?
ffwd is all about helping viewers enjoy the video content explosion -- solving the paradox of choice when it comes to short-form entertainment.
How is your company different than your competitors? Competitive advantages?
ffwd's core technology enables a channel surfing mode of navigation through content libraries. This is the simplest possible UI, and “kind” technology that makes existing cognitive behaviors more powerful, rather than trying to create new behaviors.
What are the main challenges your company faces?
ffwd's challenges pale in comparison to the challenges facing our content and distribution partners, so we focus on helping them.
Finally, what's your goal for the next few months?
To grow the reach of ffwd’s technology and build our brand as “the only channel you’ll ever need.”
