On Friday night, the Penguins played one solid period and still won in Columbus. Tonight, they played three nearly perfect periods, but lost.
The Penguins could only get a goal from Pascal Dupuis in the first period as the Minnesota Wild beat the Penguins 2-1 at Mellon Arena.
It’s weird how hockey works sometimes,” said Sidney Crosby. “We play probably one solid period last night and find a way to get two points and then tonight, we played three good periods and they kind of steal one from us. If anything that’s a good way to realize that every game we have to bring our best and we have to give ourselves a chance every night.”
The Pens pretty much dominated the game from beginning to end, outshooting the Wild 35-15.
“The last game, we had one good third period and we found a way to get two points,” said Jordan Staal. “Tonight, I thought that we played three great periods and a lot of opportunities to score some goals. We outshot them by quite a bit, but that’s the way it goes I guess.”
In the second period, Crosby got tripped into the boards by Marek Zidlicky and took exception by dropping the gloves and landing a string of good punches.
“Ever since I went into the boards with my ankle and he took my feet out going in like that, I don’t like that. It’s a bad feeling,” said Crosby. “When that happened, it just kind of ticked me off a bit and we kind of went at it a bit after that, but that’s not something that I want to make a habit of.”
With the loss, the Penguins drop to 11-3 on the season, but remain in first place in both the Eastern Conference and the Atlantic Division with 22 points.
