Been meaning to pick up a permit to finish a home remodeling project?

Now is the time!

From June 1-15, Denver County is giving FREE construction permits to home owners and contractors with remodeling or home improvement projects that can be completed in 180 days.

This generosity on Denver's part is a result of the Home Renovation Bonanza with the goal of motivating homeowners to improve their homes with the hopes of increasing the home's value.

How do I qualify for a permit?

  • Projects in 1 and 2 family dwellings
  • No new dwellings
  • No additions, garages, or accessory structures
  • Over-the-counter Quick Permits and/or 1 and 2 family walk-through plan review process only
  • Permit shall be issued on the day of application
  • All permitted work shall be finished, inspected and approved within 180 days of permit issue
  • Any re-inspection fees shall apply
  • Permits will be issued from the Downtown office only at 201 W. Colfax Ave.
What types of projects may qualify for a permit?

  • Basic Interior Remodel of existing 1 or 2 Family Dwelling (existing Kitchen, Bath or Bedroom)
  • Basement Remodel of existing 1 or 2 Family Dwelling
  • Residential 1 or 2 Family Roof Covering Repair or Replacement (may qualify for tax credit)
  • Wall Insulation (may qualify for tax credit)
  • Replacement of water heaters (may qualify for tax credit)
  • Change out central heating and air (may qualify for tax credit)
  • Residential Photo Voltaic Systems (may qualify for tax credit)
  • Stucco or siding home exteriors

When trying to decide which project to tackle also consider which improvement qualifies for a Federal Tax Credit. The state and the Federal government want to help you improve your home and increase it's value take advantage of the free permit and Federal Tax Credits that are available to you now.
