I was recently out of town for a family wedding and got to experience a wedding event I’ve often helped plan, but had never experienced: the post-wedding or morning after brunch. In our case it wasn’t a planned event. We were all enjoying our breakfast and wedding cake when I had the idea to pour some orange juice into a pitcher and add a few bottles of left-over champagne and my secret ingredient – Grand Marnier. The impromptu brunch was a wonderful opportunity for us to share our stories from the previous evening, gossip (tsk tsk) and catch up with everyone about changes in our lives. A perfect ending to a beautiful weekend.
You should consider adding a morning after brunch to your weekend wedding activities if you’re hosting at least a handful of out-of-town guests, and if the budget allows. It can be as informal as ours (with left-over wedding cake and champagne), or you can put a little extra thought into it and make a reservation at one of DC’s fabulous restaurants.
If it’s one thing I can say about this town is that we may love our politics, but we really love our food (almost daily I get word of another new restaurant opening).
