Save 50% using rail-service between Seattle and
downtown Portland Photo: Travel Portland

Want to root on the University of Washington Huskies as they play Mississippi State in the first round of the NCAA Div I tournament this week in Portland?  Well thanks to Amtrak Cascade's Portland's Big Deal promotion you can save 50% off a second adult train ticket from Seattle to Portland with the purchase of a regular adult fare.

Amtrak Cascade departs King St. Station downtown Seattle and arrives in Portland's Union Station.  Travel is valid Monday through Thursday for travel between now and May 19, 2009.

Amtrak Cascade services Seattle, WA to Portland, OR

Amtrak Cascade, the Pacific Northwest line of the national rail system, passes through the splendor of the northwest as it travels between Seattle and Portland.  Completing the journey in just at 3.5 hours, travelling between Northwest cities by train is quicker and less stressful than navigating through traffic along the I-5 corridor.

Rather than focus on the bumper ahead, passengers aboard Amtrak Cascades are free to take in the passing scenry.  Each train car is equipped with panoramic windows allowing passengers on both the upper and lower decks unobstructed views of the Cascade mountains, Puget Sound and Columbia River.  And once the sight-seeing gets old, do what I do, and catch up on some email using one of the many power outlets located throughout the cabin.

Addresses of participating Amtrak Cascade train stations

King Street Station - 303 S. Jackson St. Seattle, WA 206-382-4125

Union Station - 800 NW 6th Avenue Portland, OR 503-273-486

More info: UW students can save 15% anytime they purchase an Amtrak train ticket in person simply by showing their U-PASS to the ticket agent.
