You don't have to be rich to be fit - you just have to be ready. I've said it before, and I'll keep saying it: Silicon Valley is an area rich in fitness resources.  Here are just a few:

#1 - Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District - If you haven't seen this site, you will be blown away by the  free Outdoor Activities...all led by trained volunteer docents and are free of charge. Some activities require reservations.

Coyote Creek Trail#2 - San Jose Trail Program - plenty to keep you and your family busy exploring the trails and staying fit as a family.

#3 - Living Strong, Living Well - no-cost exercise twelve-week small-group strength and fitness training program designed for adult cancer survivors who have recently become de-conditioned or chronically fatigued from their treatment and/or disease.

#4 - Santa Clara County Health Trails -  Healthy Trails is a fitness challenge for people of all ages and skill levels. The program challenges people to walk, roll, ride or run at least 5 of the 21 featured Santa Clara County Park trails contained in a trails guidebook. Registered participants have 12 months in which to complete the fitness challenge. The

Santa Clara County Health Trails program

trails guidebook will include a log that participants use to record the trails and miles they've traveled. The log is then returned to the Santa Clara County Parks Department and a completion reward will be issued. The guidebook will also contain tips on nutrition, physical activity and safe play in regional parks.

#5 - City Parks & Recreation - there's a list to the right side of this column (go down a bit - it's there - really) with links to area parks & recreation departments.  Have you seen what is happening around you?  There are lots of classes and activities, some low-cost, many free to residents of that city.
