The Valerie Bertinelli DVD - Losing It and Keeping Fit - hit the market November 3, and the question is, "Will it land with a thud or will the fans believe there's workout magic in it for them too?"

The DVD has a lot going for it: first is Bertinelli herself, a likable and sincere star who has accomplished a significant self-marketing effort over the past year.
Another plus is that Bertinelli invited personal trainer Christopher Ross Lane alongside to add training methods and tips. Lane is the one who actually leads the workouts, so there is an added dose of credibility.
But the two biggest guns may be those that come from the business end of the equation:
1) Jenny Craig is standing behind the workout, and began offering a specialized version of it with bonus footage through Jenny Craig weight loss centers back in October. And, 2) the DVD is distributed by health and fitness mega-marketer, Gaiam, the folks that market Rodney Yee, Mari Winsor, Billy Blanks and The Firm.
Still, Bertinelli is somewhat overexposed in the fitness market, and it's possible with all the high-end competition for holiday giving and body development DVDs, she'll be just another cute face. For a review of the workout, check out ACE Certified Trainer Kelly Turner of Twirlit, who wrote a pre-release review of the DVD and gave it pretty good marks all around.
So the question is, will Bertinelli's fans follow? For that, we'll have to wait til they weigh in - with their opinions and their results.
For info: The DVD is available online and at retailers for $14.98 SRP. The Jenny Craig version features exclusive bonus footage, is priced at $19.99 SRP and is available at Jenny Craig weight loss centers.
