The Manhattan Transfer

Although Vladdy Guerroro is batting in the bottom of the eighth inning of the third Yankees-Angels ALCS game, bets are going against a freeway World Series.

To honor the resilience and longevity of New York, here's a cocktail from one of the city's namesake musical acts, The Manhattan Transfer. Based on the novel of the same name by John Dos Passos, which describes urban New York City in the Jazz Age through a series of interwoven individual stories, the jazz/pop group, formed in 1969, are celebrating 40 years of Grammy-award winning music.

In NY Drinks Examiner Robert Haynes-Peterson's last article in our city cocktail contest, he mentioned simplicity as a virtue in cocktail creation. The following metro-mix takes very little work but demands premium ingredients. Speedy doesn't mean shoddy, whether you're inside Campbell's Apartment in New York's Grand Central or Traxx at Union Station in Los Angeles.

THE MOXOPOLITAN

• 2 oz premium vodka (for the best brand, check with Chris, our Vodka Examiner)
• 1 oz St. Germain elderflower liqueur
• 1/2 oz freshly squeezed lime juice

Shake the ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and then strain into a well chilled martini glass
If you like, float an orchid on top.
