I got an email that recommends all film lovers to check out Silent Light.
Directed by Mexican filmmaker, Carlos Reygadas, Silent Light tells the story of Johan, a married man who, against the laws of his faith and traditional beliefs, falls in love with another woman, thus facing a dilemma. Will he betray his wife, the woman he once loved and disrupt the apparent stability of the community or sacrifice his true love and future happiness?
Sounds dramatic!
Martin Scorsese was even quoted saying that he "was amazed by Silent Light--the setting, the language, the delicacy of the interactions between the people on screen, the drama of redemption. And most of all by Carlos Reygadas's extraordinarily rich sense of cinema, evident in every frame. A surprising picture, and a very moving one as well."
Shot entirely on location in the Mexican Mennonite community near Chihuahua, Silent Light will not get wide release in the U.S. and is showing for one more week at Facets Multi Media Cinematheque on Fullerton.
Don't miss out!
