Record heat: Close call in DFW forecast
>>>RECORD HEAT POSSIBLE TODAY<<<
The maximum temperature record for the DFW airport (of course, the site was located in Fort Worth then), is 107 degrees which has held since 1917. Even the brutal summer of 1980 didn’t break that one
Today, however, it will be close. High temperatures over north Texas will range from 103 to 108 degrees. The heat index values will fluctuate with surface dewpoints expected to gradually drop during the afternoon, but they may top 110 during today.
It will certainly be a day for exceptional heat stress and a HEAT ADVISORY continues for all of north Texas.
Conditions will improve little on Saturday but highs will likely back off to 100-102 by Sunday: still no bargain!
The upper air pattern for next week suggests a very slight chance of a northerly flow event (late night or morning thunderstorms forming well to our north and moving our way with the steering winds), but as the ridge will linger those prospects look to be in the 10% range.
