ECMWF model / steering level (500mb) winds for Wednesday July 1, 2009

Saturday’s high of 103 at DFW was the hottest so far this year and the 4th 100-or-better day in the past week.

Your Sunday is looking to be another hot one with highs around 100.

The good news if you’re not an extreme heat lover is a change in progress. A deep upper low, quite irregular for early July, will take shape over the next two days.

This will provide a northerly wind flow over the central U.S. and serve to keep the hottest air to our south and west. A weak front moving through today may trigger widely scattered thunderstorms and it will be noticeably “nicer” tomorrow.

While still plenty hot, the combination of lower dewpoints and slightly lower temperatures should make for a considerably more comfortable time this week outside as compared to last.
