The eruption of Sarychev volcano in far eastern Russia (Kuril Islands) in mid June was the largest eruption anywhere in the world since August of 2008. If you have followed this column then you have seen the incredible photo of the eruption cloud.
 
 
Unusual sunsets have been reported over Canada and are likely in other locations as the cloud makes it way around the Northern Hemisphere and gradually spreads out.

It may eventually affect Texas sunsets by July; although at present most of the plume (and its effect on sunsets) is being observed further north, along the jet stream path.
