Tropical Storm Ida is getting stronger as it moves NNW. The color-enhanced infrared image here shows very tall thunderstorms near the center, and a fairly symmetrical structure.
This system reorganized quite rapidly after nearly two days over land.
Cooler water temperatures and increasing shear make it rather unlikely for Ida to make it to the U.S. Gulf coast intact, but strong winds of 30-50mph and heavy rainfall may occur as the storm approaches the north-central Gulf later this week.
Steering currents make the odds of Ida reaching the Texas coast very low.
