As a part of Tornado Awareness Month, the Jackson Weather Examiner will review severe storms that affected the state throughout the month of November.

On this date -November 9th:

In 2000, several severe storms swept across portions of Southeastern Mississippi, producing high winds, hail and a isolated weak tornado.

A F-0 touched down and tracked 1 mile through Lamar County, downing several trees in a rural area. Golf-ball sized hail also caused some roof damage in Lamar County.

Trees and power lines were blown down in several counties with 3 notable wind damage reports.

  • Thunderstorm winds caused extensive damage to a portion of the roof of a house, damaged two mobile homes and several outbuildings. Several pine trees were also blown down in Pearl River County.
  • A severe thunderstorm produced strong wind gusts, which damaged the roof of a motel and retail store, blew out several automobile windows, and downed a few trees in Jackson County. 
  • Several trees were blown down and caused minor damage to several homes in Clarke County. 

Tornado County: Lamar

Damaging Wind Counties: Clarke, Forrest, Jackson, Lawrence, Pearl River

Flooding County: Marion
