As a part of Tornado Awareness Month, the Jackson Weather Examiner will review severe storms that affected the state throughout the month of November.
On these dates -November 14th-15th:
(November 14)
In 1957, an 100 yard wide, F-3 tornado touched down and tracked 8 miles across Montgomery County, causing $25,000 in property damage.
In 1983, an F-1 tornado created a path 2 miles long and 150 yards wide, causing $250,000 in property damage in Wayne County. Seven people were injured.
(November 15)
In 1961, three tornadoes were reported across portions of West Central Mississippi.
Two 50 yard wide, F-2 tornadoes tracked 2 miles with one tornado track in Hinds County and a second tornado track in Warren County. One person was injured in Hinds County. An F-1 tornado was also reported in Humphreys County.
In 1989, several severe thunderstorms swept across Mississippi with mainly hail and high winds with one tornado reported.
A weak 17 yard wide, F-0 tornado tracked 5 miles in Kemper County, causing over $2,000 in property damage. High wind gusts over 50 mph was reported in Sunflower County. Large hail over 1 inch was also reported in several counties.
