The Cape Cod National Seashore is one of the venues for Truro Celebrates 300

Truro is 300 years old, and while the town has been celebrating for several months now, July 17 to 19 is the big weekend.

Daylong Truro treasure hunt followed by fireworks on Friday
On Friday July 17 head to the Public Library to check out the nine clues leading to the Truro Treasure.

Treasure hunt runs until 5 pm and the prize is an original painting of the Highland Light Complex, a Cape Cod landmark.

After the treasure hunt, there’ll be a fireworks display that can be seen from all of the Truro beaches on the Cape Cod Bay side. With good weather the fireworks may be seen from Wellfleet or Provincetown as well. Show starts at 9 pm

Artists at work, a beach party and historic map exhibit on Saturday
Saturday is the day to explore Truro, as artists and photographers spread out to capture the town and surrounding landscapes. Some of their works will be available at the reception on Sunday at Castle Hill.

From 4 – 7 pm visit the Truro Historical Society/Highland Museum to view a new exhibit of the town’s historic maps, join in the silent auction of artifacts from the museum’s collection and enjoy the refreshments offered at this opening reception.

Families might prefer to head to Corn Hill Beach for the Truro Beach Party. The party runs from 4 –9 pm and includes games, live music and dancing. Bring a picnic and make a day of it. Parking is limited so carpooling is suggested.

Sunday parade and festival, arts reception and theatre
Truro’s 300 th Anniversary parade starts at 11 am at Dutra’s Market ending at the Highlands Center at the Cape Cod National Seashore. Visitors from Truro’s sister city in Cornwall, England will share in the celebration which will run until 3 pm.

From 5 – 7 pm the Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill will host a reception and art sale. Then from 8 – 10 pm head for Payomet Performing Arts Center at the Highlands Center in the Cape Cod National Seashore, to enjoy a group of short sketches and plays about events and day to day life in the history of Truro.
