Longmont lights up this week!

With a fresh coat of snow on the ground and in the trees, Longmont kicks off it's annual Christmas event tonight with Longmont Lights 2008, a weeklong winter celebration that includes lots of FREE events. If you can't make it down to Denver for their Parade of Lights...we have one too (thousands of people show up for this!)

And where else can you get "It's a Wonderful Life" for FREE when our local performing arts theatre shows two free showings of the movie classic on Monday night , Dec 8th (Call ahead for seats!)

Ice skating OUTDOORS at Christmastime is a tradtion! Try out our outdoor Ice Pavillion. FREE ice skating rentals will be offered.

SPECIAL NEWS FLASH: We just got word from one of Santa's elves that Santa wil be SKYDIVING in to Roosevelt Park (at the Ice Pavilion) at 10:30am on Saturday, Dec 13th!!


Friday, December 5 - Downtown Longmont Tree Lighting (5th Ave & Main St) is at 6pm, activities and holiday carriage rides 5pm- 8pm. Roosevelt Park (849 Coffman St) kick off lighting is at 5pm. Free carriage rides will pick up from St.Stephens Plaza (5th Ave & Main St) and the St.Vrain Memorial Building (700 Longs Peak Ave).  

Longmont Lights kicks off a week long list of holiday activities starting in Downtown Longmont on Friday, December 5th.

The Downtown Holiday Open House and Tree Lighting Ceremony, formerly called Celebration of Lights will include everything from treats, hands on craft activities to entertainment in downtown businesses. Come out and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate, take part in a free carriage ride, visit Santa or countdown for the lights to turn on at the 6th Avenue tree lighting ceremony.

Schedule of Activities:
5:OO-8:OOpm Merchant Holiday Open Houses (Click HERE to see the listing of participating merchants and see the Jingle Jangle Cash offer) and strolling entertainment.

6:OOpm Tree Lighting Ceremony at the 6th Avenue Plaza (6th Avenue and Main Street)

5:45-7:15pm Holiday Concert Series, Todd's Guitars Etc. (460 Main)
Longmont Concert Band (5:45pm)
Altona Middle School Jazz Band (6:45pm)

6:15-8:00pm St. Stephens Plaza Performances (near the NE corner of Main and 5th Avenue)
Jesters Theatre Carolers (6:15pm)
Longmont Adult Choral (6:30-7:OOpm)
Sounds Appealing Quartet (7:15-8:OOpm)

5:30-8:00pm Santa Story Time at the Used Book Emporium, 346 Main

5:00-8:00pm Carriage Rides starting at Stephens Plaza and the Memorial Building at Roosevelt Park.

5:00pm Holiday lights at Roosevelt Park  

Saturday, December 6, 10am-6pm- Ice Skating at the Ice Pavilion in Roosevelt Park with free skate rental. (Click HERE for more info about the rink, including a link to directions)

Sunday, December 7, Mini Gingerbread House Workshop 1-3pm at the Longmont Rec Center, (310 Quail Road). Free drop-in class, but space is limited.

Monday, December 8, 4:30pm and 7pm - FREE Movie Night at the Longmont Theatre presenting "It's a Wonderful Life". (513 Main St - Call 303-772-5200 for ticket info) Come enjoy the downtown restaurants before or after his family oriented movie. (click HERE for a list of our restaurants)

Tuesday, December 9, 6:30pm Longmont Library Holiday Story telling with Spellbinders. (409 4th Ave)
 

Wednesday, December 10, 5pm-8pm National Collage Society 24th Annual Juried Exhibit. The Exhibit continues through January 11, 2009. (Tue-Sat. 9-5; Wed 9-8; Sun 1-5). Free. Longmont Museum. (400 Quail Rd) Click HERE for more info about this special exhibit

5:00-8:00p.m. Roosevelt Park Lights & Light Show, Fire Pits, Hot Cocoa
Drop–in Santa’s Workshop & Live Reindeer – Memorial Building (Santa Claus invites you and your child (8 & under) to visit his local workshop on this special evening. Parent/child will be making toys, crafts and visiting with Santa himself. Bring your camera to take pictures. This workshop is presented by Recreation Services - Small Wonders Preschool. Please pre-register by calling 303-651-8404. Admission is Free)
6:30p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Dance (Live Band) - Senior Center (910 Longs Peak Ave)
