This years pumpkin heads?

Now that the voter registration deadline rush ended today for Vote! Longmont, we can take a break for a bit and look to Halloween fun. Every year at Halloween we look through our stencil book and I let our kids each pick out the scariest face to carve into our pumpkins. This year's pumpkin stencils are a bit more friendly faced, or are they?  A couple of them are guaranteed to scare even the adults!

Better Homes and Gardens each year posts their downloadable pumpkins stencils for you to print and carve into your pumpkin.  This year they are taking it one step further and also are offering you the chance to cast your online vote as to which presidential pumpkin face you would rather see on the steps to your white house. As the organizers of Vote! Longmont, a voter registration and get out the vote project, we are always looking for fun ways to get the kids involved in the voting process and this combines both.

This is the first year that we see descriptions with each pumpkin face stencil (usually we form our own opinion about them!).  From the BHG.com site:

____________________________________________________

Sarah Palin: Taking a stand against the status quo? Display your Sarah Palin pumpkin* and say thanks, but no thanks to Halloween as usual. The feisty Alaska gov is ready to lead your fright-night festivities! *Lipstick not included

Joe Biden: Looking for experience? Carve a Joe Biden jack-o'-lantern and illuminate your porch with the eerie glow that comes from decades of Washington experience. After all, it's Halloween -- and it doesn't get much scarier than Capitol Hill!

John McCain: Want a maverick who goes his own way? Then grab your knife, put Halloween first, and carve your John McCain jack-o'-lantern. Trick-or-treaters will instantly know that you're a contrarian who's not easily spooked.

Barack Obama: Hoping for change? Then change an ordinary supermarket pumpkin into a fresh-faced jack-o'-lantern with a vision for great tricks and treats. Download our Barack Obama stencil and cast your vote for a Hope-y Halloween!

The stencils we usually use come with a difficulty level, wonder if the above stencils also come with the "easy-moderate-hard-difficult" ratings?  This year we even grew our own pumpkins and interestingly enough, we have exactly four pumpkins in our pumpkin patch...should we do all the candidates?

We recently read of another Longmont family who grew their own pumpkins, but had one that they were growing for a local contest, stolen right out of their yard.  It was large enough that they probably could have fit the faces from all four candidates onto that one pumpkin!  To read about their story, click HERE

But, have fun picking out which one you will chose!  Chose wisely so you don't find the face of your favorite candidate pumpkin smashed in the street after Halloween.
