Best of Longmont: Literally (the best place to find deals)

October 5, 6:51 PM
by Brigette Rodriguez, Longmont Examiner

The best local publication in town!Longmont Florist, Pumphouse Brewery, Todd's Guitars Etc, Two Dog Diner, Longmont Theater Company, Ziggi's Coffee House, Crackpots, Sunflower SpaPlayNTrade Video Games, Snow Mountain Creamery.  These are all just a sample of the best Longmont businesses that can be found at the best local publication in Longmont, Bestof-Longmont.com.

When I was given the assignment on Examiner of writing about the "Best Of", I thought this site makes my job here (as well as a resident who doesn't want to take a lot of time to find this info) an easy one.  They have also have links to all the businesses featured on the site, comments from patrons, coupons to most, email contacts to, as well as directions on how to get to them. There also is a designated Local Shop page that is specifically for locally owned businesses. There also is a monthly never-ending raffle to win discounts.

But, there's SO much more to this site than just listing the best businesses that are featured there.  So, I email interviewed the director of the publication, Dwight Jackson.

How long has the Best of Longmont site been around? Bestof Longmont was born Sept 1st, 2007 out of a desperate need to leverage global technology (internet) to help local businesses and non-profits find affordable means of getting their message out to the general public

How many businesses do you have on the site? We started with 5 businesses and about 5 unique hits a day. The rest they say is history....we now have over 200 locally owned businesses and receive an average of 233 unique hits a day only a year later (6 - 7000 a month).

First business on the site? Budget Home Center was one of our first businesses on board because he loved our LOCAL ONLY approach to promoting his business to compete against the corporate giants like LOWES or HOME DEPOT..

Most popular business? Our most popular businesses are definitely our restaurants and fun destinations as visitors are looking for places to eat and things to do for fun. They typically average 3 X the number of hits that our local shops & services get.

(Thanks Dwight!)
