OK, you need to watch this video if you haven’t already...
As a self-described “32-year-old deadbeat from Connecticut”, former video gamer Matt Harding decided to shuck it all and wander the world…dancing. He is far from being Fred Astaire…or Fred Flintstone or Fred Thompson for that matter. However, he has mastered his own goofy jig, a cross between the Funky Chicken and a full-body spasm, and repeated his unique moves over a tireless fourteen months, in an astonishing 42 different countries, and with the infectious participation of the citizenry in each locale. Just as impressive, this is his third global journey, and this time, he convinced Stride Gum to sponsor all his travels. Not bad for a deadbeat.
I think the result is an unadulterated joy. You can’t help having a smile on your face watching this and thinking how he got all these people to dance with him. They swarm in at the 0:52 second mark, and he even makes it to Alamo Square in San Francisco at the 3:28 mark. The seductive song playing over the video is “Praan” composed by Gary Schyman and performed by Palbasha Siddique. Matt gets my vote for producing the best travel video of 2008 because more than any more deliberate video travelogue, his really inspires me to travel the world and share the common bond we all have with each other.
