It is being reported that Hall of Fame Oakland Raider guard Gene Upshaw has passed away from complications from pancreatic cancer. Upshaw was a fixture on the left side of the Raiders line from 1967 through 1981. Following his playing time he became the President of the NFL Players Association, a post he held until his death.
Upshaw earned his reputation as an elite lineman by starting over 200 consecutive games and garnering seven Pro Bowl bids, 11 All-Pro selections and three Super Bowl appearences. He was named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1987.
The Raider Nation has lost one of its own today, and feels a deep loss. May one of the all-time greats rest in peace. Our prayers are with his family.
