Beautiful Alaskan King Crab Legs

There are only a couple days left of this month, but it should be pointed out that its national seafood month.  It's true, we Hoosiers don't live near the ocean, but when they flash freeze the seafood on the boat, it's almost as good as being there right?  OK, maybe not, but the food is just as fresh and tasty.

Crab legs are a bit of a luxury item, but if you cook them at home, you will have an elegant, delicious and fun meal for family or guests.  They are very low in fat, extremely high in protien and minerals.

The best price found at local grocery stores was Marsh for $14.99/lb Alaskan King Crab Legs. You can get snow crab legs for about half the price. Note, these prices were not a sale price, so call your favorite market for deals. You'll need about 3/4 pound per person.

This recipe is so easy and won't heat up your kitchen as you can do it in a steamer outside.

Drunken Crab Legs

  • 3 bottles beer (whatever you drink is fine)
  • 3 lemons halved
  • 1 head fresh garlic halved
  • 3 pounds Alaskan king crab legs, split

Pour beer, lemons and garlic into a steamer and bring to a boil. Add crab legs and cover. Steam for 5 minutes. You can serve with drawn butter but it really doesn't need it!
