Acne is a skin disease caused by the clogging of pores and surprisingly effects more adults than teens! Acne affects more than 50% of adults between 25 and 49, compared to 25% of teenagers. A small but significant study was recently conducted by Australian scientists which divided young men in two groups; one group was instructed to eat a diet of lean meat, poultry and fish, along with fruits and vegetables while the other group ate a typical Western diet including foods such as white bread and highly processed foods. After 12 weeks, the boys on the more natural diet reduced skin breakouts by 50 percent.

What to eat & drink

  1. Vegetables: lead to less acne and a nice complexion. Also high in antioxidants.
  2. Fruit: even though high in sugar, it has vitamins which help the skin recover from problems.
  3. White Meat: Chicken has proven to be very helpful in overcoming conditions such as dry skin.
  4. Salmon or Tuna: High in Omega three and any other fish is in the same category. The omega three and natural fish oil help the skin build immunity against problems and infections.
  5. Water: By staying to a water diet, you will notice immediate improvement in your acne.

What to avoid

  1. Highly processed foods like canned ravioli, hot dogs, boxed meals and the like.
  2. Refined Grains like white bread and white pasta
  3. Chocolate as it is very high in sugar.
  4. Soft Drinks also have high levels of sugar and caffeine trigger breakouts and irritation.

Even though a lot of doctors say diet is not related to acne, for most people suffering from mild or moderate acne it very much is according to the study, yet not so much those people with severe acne.
