Strong early reviews for "Me and McCartney"
Releasing a new book is always an angst producing experience. I find this particularly true when the book is a novel. That is why I have been thrilled with the early anecdotal reviews of Me and McCartney. People are really enjoying the book! Here are a couple of quick reports I’ve received:
A friend left the book sitting on the counter at home. His wife – a very sharp and successful businesswoman – picked it up and began reading. She said she couldn’t put it down. She told him it was the best book she had read in years. I was actually surprised to get this strong of a review, but was also very jazzed!
Another friend (a Denver businessman and Colorado State Senator) picked the book up at a local bookstore. He had not heard anything about it and told me his first thought upon seeing the title was surprise that I had written a book about my relationship with Bill McCartney (who happens to be a friend of mine). As soon as he began reading he realized the book title referred to Paul McCartney. For a while, he thought it was non-fiction and that I had actually had this experience. Then he said he realized that there had not been a Queen of England named “Katherine” in several hundred years. He said he “loved” the book and thought it needed to be made into a movie.
Another gentleman here in Denver ordered the book from the publisher’s internet site. He told me he would have read it in one sitting but finally had to put the book down when his eyes began to hurt from reading so long. He picked it up the next morning and finished it. He went on to say, “This is a really good book!”
Although anecdotal, these early reviews have been encouraging. Three different independent film producers are reviewing the book to possibly option the story, and several others have it in hand. I wrote the story with a film in mind, so hopefully something will develop in this area. No one realizes more than I do what a long shot that is, but so is every other idea “pitched” to film executives.
The first “official” book signing will be held in Denver, this Wednesday night at
Solid Grounds Coffee Shop. Several others are in the tentative stages of planning. For those of you who can’t wait for Amazon to list the book, it is available through
Intermedia Publishing or by linking to the site via the Me and McCartney “favorites” link on this page.
For those of you who are currently reading the book, send me your critiques and comments. I’d love to hear what you think.
