Some gluten free foods
sold at MOM's.

My Organic Market (MOM’s) has locations in Rockville, Frederick, College Park, Columbia East (Jessup), and Alexandria. They carry many gluten free products. Most of the gluten free items are in a separate section, which makes shopping especially easy.

As we celebrate Earth week, MOM’s is a wonderful example of a green company. The electricity in all their stores is from 100% wind power. MOM’s uses green building materials, including bamboo and recycled lumber. They even offer employees green benefits, including $3,000 towards the purchase of a hybrid vehicle. MOM’s does not sell imported water, sells only sustainable seafood, buys local products whenever possible to conserve fuel, and uses biodegradable packaging and coffee cups.

MOM's accepts the following items for recycling:

• "Fluorescent light bulbs (CLFs or tubes)
• Batteries (with one end taped securely for shipping)
• Plastic bottle tops
• Cell phones
• Toner cartridges (household printers)
• #5 plastic containers (College Park and Frederick only)
• Sorry! We are no longer accepting plastic grocery bags, cellophane and saran-wrap for recycling. Currently MOM's does not have the facilities to bale used plastic before shipping to a recycling center."

Here is an interesting part of the company’s history.

"Scott Nash started MOM‘s in 1987 at the age of 22 with an initial investment of $100. MOM‘s was initially called Organic Foods Express (OFE) and operated as a home-delivery/mail order company out of Scott‘s mom‘s garage. In 1987, OFE rented a 900 square foot warehouse in Scott‘s home-town of Beltsville, Maryland."

When you go to your local MOM’s, remember to bring your reusable shopping bags and recycling. As you shop for gluten free goodies, take a moment to appreciate the green environment. Be sure to stock up on some great Blue Diamond Nut-Thins on sale this month for $2.29 and Stonyfield Farms fat-free yogurt on sale for 79 cents.
