I follow gluten free and celiac disease news daily. My favorite sources for locating this news are the gluten free news aggregator and twitter. This week, I discovered these great articles, which I encourage you to read.
I heard from Mandy the Orlando gluten free examiner about celiac disease on the reality televisison show "Last Restaurant Standing" on BBC America. She shared that this episode will air again on Tuesday, April 21 at 8pm. For a detailed recap of this episode, Gluten Free Steve has a wonderful article about it.
Nancy Lapid’s blog has an informative article about the celiac disease vaccine that is being tested in Australia. She explains how this vaccine is different from other celiac research in the United States. This will certainly be an interesting study to follow.
Alison from Sure Foods Living wrote a great detailed article called "Think outside the celiac box". This article is a reference on understanding gluten sensitivity and contains important information to share with others.
Van’s has developed two new gluten free products, pancakes and French toast sticks. However, there has been controversy about the new gluten free products containing barley malt, despite the products being tested to 20ppm. A blog post from Navan Foods has the latest positive information about Van’s plan to now remove the barley malt. For a more detailed story about the barley malt, read "Can barley malt extract really be gluten free" by Tricia Thompson.
Vanessa Maltin at Celiac Princess posted an article called "Celiac disease risk significantly higher for type 1 diabetics". Be sure to share this article with type 1 diabetics.
I published an article this week on my blog, Gluten Free Optimist, about my daughter's letter that mentions celiac disease being published in the new book "Kids' Letters to President Obama".
