The gun rights issue is important, but as several people have already commented, the states that are passing legislation to put the overreaching federal government in its proper perspective to the states, are doing so because of state sovereignty.
This is a much larger issue and we may be watching the end of the United States as we have known it. Some people have likened it to a divorce. The gun issue may have been the straw that triggered it, but reading the bills such as the one being considered in South Carolina for example, it is clear the relationship between the states and the federal government is becoming more strained by the current administration after only four months in office.
So far, 35 states are considering some form of legislation to tell the federal government to back off.
I have discovered a great website to keep ourselves up to date as more states rediscover the tenth amendment and propose or pass legislation to limit federal interference with their sovereignty.
