Whether you want to take a leap on a first date, or try something new without dropping green, short-cut to Park Slope, Brooklyn for one of these out-of-town-inspired eateries.

At Geido, creative Japanese dishes and sushi is served to mostly regulars (and you) who have colored the walls with staff portraits and fish since 1985.  Try their mochi - a dough ball stuffed with green tea paste - for dessert, or better, sink your teeth into something like the Sumo Maki - tuna, salmon, fish roe, avocado, egg, asparagus, cucumber for $7.75, or the Dynamite Roll - tuna, eel, avocado, ginger flakes, crab also $7.75. 331 Flatbush Avenue.

Cafe Steinhof spricht die Brooklyn-Sprache, what with their $5 Monday night special with two great features: a tender beef and vegetable goulash or fried, lemon-flavored trout.  They also dish a mean Weiner schnitzel with pickled cucumbers and liebe. 422 Seventh Avenue.

El Gran Castillo de Jagua is a great castle with peasant prices.  This Dominican spot with perchance to large helpings and multiple sides (try plantains here), also has a half, slow-cooked rotisserie chicken for just $6.25. 345 Flatbush Avenue.

The Olive Vine Cafe bakes homemade taste into their spinach pies ($4.50), or at least that's what the locals say.  This spice-happy spot will also give your stomach a spin with an richly flavored chicken platter for $9.50. Oh yeah, and it's BYOB, too. 441 Seventh Avenue.
