The other evening, I was having dinner and drinks with my friends in Hayes Valley. Actually, I wasn't drinking because I don't drink. If I did drink, it would cause a tear in the universe's space time continuum and it would be ghastly. Simply ghastly.
Anyway, as we sat at Absinthe discussing random topics in today's Palin-centric pop culture society, someone mentioned, "If you wear a vest, then you are obviously gay."
I immediately retorted, "No - Justin Timberlake wears a vest!" And by "vest" I am referring to those button-up in-vogue dandy vests that are all the rage with hipsters and metro-gentleman.
When I mentioned JT, it immediately started a heated debate. All homosexual references to JT aside, people were really getting into this discussion.
My friend Steve claimed (if I remember correctly) that if you wear it casually with any type of T-shirt, then it's a surefire sign you are of the aforementioned sexuality.
I don't agree with this. I have seen James McAvoy in the shirt/vest combo and as far as I know, he is straight.
Another one of my friends, Nick chimed in stating that if you "dress the vest down" then it's a sure sign that you're gay.
After about 20 minutes of discussing this random query (no pun intended), nothing was really resolved. In fact, we managed to segue into a conversation about this book that said the Chinese were the first people to inhabit the Earth.
The whole question about one's "vestuality" is an interesting one. Sure, it may be a very random (and possibly useless) topic, but it's still interesting because it's just amazing how a person is defined by their wardrobe.
My personal opinion about vestuality? I've seen straight and gay guys wear vests. Hell, even females don a vest once in a while. That said, the item of clothing in question is uni-vestual.
