There were no apple bottom jeans or baggy sweatpants and the Reeboks with the straps, but there were plenty of boots with the fur last Thursday when I went to the opening of the new UGG Australia store in San Francisco co-hosted by Vogue Magazine.
I’ll admit, I’m not the biggest fan of the furry footwear. I like them when they are discreet, but if they look like wardrobe for Conan the Barbarian, that’s when I have to draw the line.
Nonetheless, there was reason to celebrate as the new 4,494 square-foot store on Sutter street was busting at the seams with socialites sipping on champagne and munching on appetizers amidst dance-worthy music. Unfortunately, no one was really dancing and they didn’t play Flo-rida’s “Low,” which would’ve been more than appropriate.
In keeping with the current Olympic spirit, Olympic Gold Medalist, Jonny Moseley played host for the evening at UGG’s first California-based flagship retail location.
UGG Australia president, Connie Rishwain was more than excited to have the new store open in S.F. In a way, it was a sort of homecoming for the uber-comfy boots.
“We are thrilled to open our first flagship store in California, which is our home state,” said Rishwain in a statement. “UGG began in the late 70’s as a California surf brand and has evolved into a global brand that can now support its own retail stores. We are so honored to open our doors in San Francisco.”
Here are some more pics from the event:

Some camo Uggs for the kiddies...

Olympiad Jonny Moseley welcomes the crowd (isn't that a great pic?)...

UGGS as far as the eye can see...

Avid UGG fans enjoy the new store...okay, they were my friends - but they did have a grand ol'time.
Add another notch to the fashionable belt of S.F.’s Union Square – it looks like more and more debt-inducing stores are opening. Shopaholics everywhere rejoice!
