Last night, I was fortunate to hover over the red carpet at the “Milk” premiere at the Castro Theater (I’ll have more on that later) and as I was deciding what to wear, I took into consideration San Francisco’s definition of fall weather. I thought that while standing outside enclosed in a press barricade, the weather would be light and brisk, not nipping and chilly. That said, my blazer and vintage silk scarf didn’t prevent me from shivering while talking to the red carpet guests.
Needless to say, our Indian summer is coming to an end and autumnal garb is in order. Here are three must haves for gentleman that can help you stay warm enough in the city.

Cardigans: Not too heavy, not too light, the layering piece known to be essential for disgruntled retirees in nursing homes have become an “it” item as of late. My choice? The Benjamin Bixby referee cardigan (pictured above $395 at Barneys.com) from Outkast’s Andre 3000 fashion line.

Tweed: The chivalrous fabric is not only professorial, but chic as well. Tweed is what I like to call the transition fabric. The color of the material is perfect for fall, while the weight of the fabric is friendly for winter. (Pictured above: Ralph Lauren Rugby Tweed Hacking Jacket, $395 at Rugby.com.)

The murse: What would a gentleman’s outfit be without the perfect murse? (Pictured above: 3.1 Phillip Lim Suede Tote, $299 at eLuxury.com)
