Economic Upturn

A couple of days ago, author Jean Chatzy appeared on “The View” promoting her new book, The Difference. In it she advises us how to prosper in a tough economy. Much of the book is about keeping a positive attitude and being resourceful in finding solutions to problems. I couldn’t agree with her more.

Yes, I know it’s hard to be positive when all you hear, read and see these days is bad news about the state of our economy. That’s because good news apparently doesn’t sell newspapers or increase TV ratings. In Barbara Walters’ memoir, Audition, she says, “Give us a good rape, give us a good murder, and we are guaranteed a successful broadcast.” Fear. Conflict. Blame. Tragedy. That’s what makes the money! Oh sure, sometimes there’s a warm happy ending story that airs in the last five minutes of the nightly news, but that’s overshadowed by the preceding fifty-five minutes of gloom and doom.

One way to stay positive is to exercise your own free will on what you watch, listen to or read. In other words, change your media habits. Take a break from the bad news and read about all the wonderful stuff going on in the fun sections like “living”, “home & garden”, “food” “entertainment” and “health”. If you’re a TV news addict, watch the news once a week instead of every day. Laugh a little with sitcoms or learn a lot from informational network TV shows. Stop focusing on all that’s wrong with the state of the economy and focus on all the good things going on in your family, neighborhood, state, country and the world.

Try not to buy into the fear around you. Visualize your life as you want it to be…happy, healthy, peaceful and abundant! Create your own reality.
