Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) has expanded its wine shops and wine tasting rooms from just grocery stores and liquor stores to some pretty nice shops and many of them lie west of Coppell. We still have our favorite though, La Cave Warehouse that lies behind the Anatole hotel. www.lacavewarehouse.com. Our French friend, Francois Chandou and his wife Ann do a beautiful job with wine dinners and host some free Saturday tastings. They require a reservation, but these charming hosts know their stuff. They sell wine there as well.
55 degrees Wine Bar & Bisto in Plano looks like it is definately worth visiting as is Veritas Wine Bar on Henderson. Veritas has excellent food and wines by the glass. In Dallas, you can visit Calais off of Commerce, Cru in the West Village, Dali on Routh Street and Mercy in North Dallas if you are making the rounds. Other discoveries further west include D'Vine Wine in Grapevine, who hosts some international tastings usually on Friday nights. They serve a hefty plate of appetizers with these and the surroundings are charming. I Fratelli is having a $20 tasting October 22nd at their sit down location off MacArthur Boulevard in Irving, featuring Lionello Marchesi. Appetizers will be served at that tasting.
Other great finds include DeVine in Coppell, Tivoli Wines of Colleyville (check the hours of operation before you go.), plus Put a Cork in It and Grand Cru in Fort Worth. Zambrano restaurant and wine cellar in Fort Worth is open evenings except Sundays and Lone Star Wines is another one, just off Exchange Street in Fort Worth. If you haven't headed to Fort Worth in quite some time, it is well worth a visit. The village area has boutique retail and restaurants and you are not far from the botanical gardens and the museum district. On a pretty day, you can have a great time being a tourist in Fort Worth.
