Every now and then I find another reason to switch from Microsoft to another product.  Some years ago I switched from PC to Mac after spending most of a night recovering from a virus hit.  Well, I had anotherEurekaa moment yesterday.

While I was wondering when the Idea fairy was going to drop some inspiration on my head, was mindlessly surfing the web. I happened to receive an email announcing OpenOffice 3. I went to the site and downloaded it and Viola!

For those of you who have lives away from your monitor allow me to explain - OpenOffice provides open-source software. You are free to use it on any and all machines, distribute it to friends, family anddoord-to-door salesmen - all totally legally.   No about the product.

OpenOffice 3 is a clone ofMicrosoftt Office.

  • The Documents it produces are totally compatible with MS office documents
  • The "Look and Feel"enables an MS Office user to switch easily
  • Did I mention it's free?
  • It will run on any platform - PC, Mac or Linux.
  • It contains: A Word Processor, A Spreadsheet, A PowerPoint-like presentation tool, A Drawing tool and A Database tool.
  • Each of these tools is totally compatible with their MS brethren.
  • Did I mention it's free?

It downloads and installs easily, however the download did take about 15 minutes.  Try it, You'll Like it

Homework for Monday: Get a copy of the book Up The Organization by Robert Townsend and be prepared for a quiz.
