There are some books that I think every manager should have on his desk. One of them is fairly recent. Malcolm Gladwell, the author of The Tipping Point has written another book that forces you to cogitate about how you function. Blink: Ther Power of Thinking Without Thinking delves into that strange place we call our "gut".  We look at a situation or a problem and we instinctively know what to do. Gladwell explains that. He also discusses the dark side of this intuition.

It's an easy read. Gladwells examples are intriguing. I strongly recommen\d it. Used copies are available at Amazon.com for as little as $1.46

On the other hand: Michael LeGault gives us the alternative viewpoint.  In his book Think!: Why Crucial Decisions Can't Be Made in the Blink of an Eye His premise is that "Somewhere along the line, the Age of Reason morphed into the Age of Emotion". I would urge you to read them both and form your own opinion
