It was wonderful to learn today from Rose Flowers, F+W Media, Sales and Events Manager, that the Great American Scrapbook Convention (GASC) is supporting our troops by inviting all GASC attendees to donate cards for CARDSFORHEROS.ORG.

CARDSFORHEROS.ORG is a volunteer organization that sends thousands of handmade greeting cards for deployed heroes to use to write home to their loved ones (i.e., husbands and wives, mothers and fathers, children and friends).

Their mission is "to support our nation's armed forces by sending blank greeting cards to write home on, as well as cards of gratitude to encourage them."

General cards are in greatest demand – miss you, love, birthday, thinking of you, hello, thank you, etc.

They are also beginning to collect cards for Rosh Hashanah, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, and Christmas. As longer lead times are involved during heavy mail traffic periods.

So, pull out those extra holiday cards that you made last year. But please, no glitter that will flake off the card—it is a safety hazard; it can make a mess on a uniform and make a hero visible to night-vision goggles.

If you don’t have time to make cards over the next couple of days (because you’ll be taking classes and shopping at GASC), then go through your stash and donate some of those samples and extra cards that you may have on hand and bring them to the CARDSFORHEROS.ORG card collection box.

Card collection boxes will be located at all GASC Chantilly crops and at  convention entry. If you cannot find a donation box, please give your cards to any GASC staff member.

You can also drop your cards off with Fabre Sanders, the East Coast Shipper for CARDSFORHEROES.ORG. She can most likely be found helping out her dear friend, Angela Moen, owner of The Button Farm, in her booth at GASC Chantilly.

Let's see how many cards the generous and talented GASC Chantilly attendees can dontate.

If you are not able to attend GASC, you can still stop by and drop off your cards to be sent to deployed troops.

Join in the effort to support our heroes!
