Sarah Palin
GOP VP candidate AK Gov. Sarah Palin

Call her a newly-discovered energy star-- Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has just come from outside the Washington Beltway to land as the GOP's number 2 pick for national leadership. With Sen. John McCain's choice of Palin for his vice-presidential running mate, the presidential campaign has just gotten a new infusion of energy and power.

Palin, already an iconic reference for gutsy women in politics and leadership roles,  is technology-saavy, thus shoring up what's been a constant personal criticism of McCain from Barack Obama's camp. Palin now will have to get up to speed on McCain's pro-space policy.

Married to Todd Palin,  a Native Yup'ik Eskimo,  Palin offers solid experiences in dealing with oil development in Alaska's resource-rich environment , while keeping promises to slash budget luxuries. Her backing of natural gas and oil technology, while balancing environmental needs, may signal a quick perception of NASA's role in not only space exploration, but studying and providing data on Earth's environment.
