Mars from Opportunity

2008 has brought a surge of space activities and anniversaries. Among the stars: the Mars Spirit and Opportunity Rovers and the Mars Phoenix Lander.

Spirit and Opportunity are heading into their amazing fifth year of Mars exploration. No one ever thought they'd survive Martian winters and the hazards of traveling the unknown terrain of Mars for this long.

But survive they did, sending home incredible images and scientific data.

Here, their Earth-bound human counterparts talk about the rovers' success and their personal reactions.
