Shuttle landing set for Edwards Air Force Base

Space Shuttle Endeavour is homeward bound, with  landing set  for 3:25 p.m. CST at Edwards Air Force Base in California.

Mission managers earlier waved off two Kennedy Space Center landings due to bad weather. Tomorrow's weather forecast for KSC also called for unacceptable weather.

The diversion to Edwards means that the shuttle will have to use a temporary landing strip at Edwards, which is slightly shorter than the normal runway. STS-126 Chris Ferguson and Pilot Eric Boe have flown training missions for the temporary strip.

The most recent landing at EAFB was STS-117 on June 22, 2007. The diversion to California will add more than a million dollars to the cost of the mission, and means that Endeavour must be flown home to KSC aboard its carrier aircraft.
